I heard a footstep on the ground squash it was getting closer. I turned around then I saw a big flash like lightning. I turned one more time and I saw him,  it moved its hips back and I knew the cheater was about to pounce.

Reed's Maths DLO - Groups of 4s.

Quality Blog Comments

Madeline has been into Room 5 today to talk about how to write a Quality Blog Comment. You can find the work they have completed today in their CYBER SAFETY folder - DRIVE

When posting online there are some important tips to remember:

  1. Think with your head
  2. Feel with your heart
  3. Balance - time off and online
  4. Listen to your gut, it helps our mind make good decisions.
  5. Stand Tall and be proud of what you share online.
Here is the link to the song we got this information from.

Toki Pounamu Cyber Safety - Blog Profiles

This morning Madeline came into our class to discuss some more of the Cyber Safety curriculum with us.

We have started to look at creating a blurb that introduces us to the online audience in a positive way.  This is in preparation for when the children get their own blogs later in the year.

  • We recapped what information we should keep private and what information we can share in public.
  • Each child has created a slide with their blurb and a profile picture.  You can find them in your child's cyber safety folder in their drive.
  • I have asked your child to share their profile with you.  I would recommend discussing the information that your child has written, and decide if there is anything you would like to change.
  • If you would like to comment on anything, please leave a comment in the notes below the slide.

Room 5 have been exploring blogs to help them understand what they can be used for.  They had to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) to explain what they had learnt and how they made their poster.  Room 5 have just learnt to use screen castify and used it to record their learning
Here are some of our learning videos below.

Week 4 Home Learning

Kia ora,

It has been great seeing the students working on their Blog Content Poster over the last few days for Home Learning. Understanding what they can find on blogs and what blogs are used for is a valuable exercise and will prepare them for when they get their own blog later in the year.

MATHS
This term I have introduced the Maths Buddy Action plan. You can find your child's action plan in their  Maths folder in their Drive.  It would be great if you could have a chat to your child about this and encourage them to complete at least 1 - 2 tasks at home over the week.  Once they have completed their task they can sign it off.

We have also started a Speeds Skills challenge, every morning the class complete 3 speed skills tests, where they get to challenge themselves and others in the class to be BTB.  This can be found as a link at the bottom of the Maths Buddy Site.  I suggest your child completes one of these tests each night from either Level 1 or Level 2 so they can get better at their basic facts.   I am keeping a record of each child's progress daily to monitor their improvement.  We are looking for over 20 facts answered correctly in the 60 second timed test.

READING
We encourage every child to be reading every night.  If your child has Reading Eggs it would be beneficial for them to sit down at least once a week at home to complete a level. This reading programme gives the children an opportunity to have fun while practicing their reading strategies from class.

Remember to check out our Class Blog which we are using as a platform for sharing the students work until they get their own blog.  http://room5paroa.blogspot.co.nz/

AND

Remember to check out the Room 5 classroom site to check out what is happening in our class and what your child is learning.  https://sites.google.com/a/paroagrey.school.nz/misscurragh/

Have a great week, if you have any questions please feel free to pop in.

Cyber Smart Footprints

Hello all, We have a great start to the term learning how to be cyber smart users. The Toki Pounamu facilitator; Madeline, will be visiting our classroom weekly to help prepare us for blogging and to be cyber smart when using our chrome books. We have had a number of conversations about what information is appropriate to share online and you can view the DOC that your child has made in their cyber smart folder regarding public and private information. We have also started looking at blogs and what content we can find on a blog. For example learning goals, videos, web links, and online traffic. I would suggest having a chat to your child about what they are learning in regards to the cyber smart curriculum and if you have any questions please come and see me. Miss C
